Big Ten strong in the NCAA...

So much for the Big Ten critics this year. The East Coast lovers have never given the Big Ten their due. Now 2 of the 4 Final Four teams (almost a third) are from the Big Ten. Still think it's been a down year?? Except for Illinois, I agree, there haven't been any huge seasons. It's because all of the teams are so well-balanced. Any of them could win on any given day. That doesn't make for run away records.
It would be incredible to see an all Big Ten final game. Wonder what their excuses would be then?

Need a job?

There is likely one available on American Idol. The person responsible for displaying the phone numbers associated with each contestants voting made a major faux pas on Tuesday. The numbers were mixed up, nullifying all Tuesday votes. The show opted to have another one hour show last night and start the voting all over again.
If there was any question that this program is Fox's big hitter, it should be answered now. The mistake caused scheduling changes on two consecutive nights. Wednesday went from a half hour to an hour. The half hour vote off show will be tonight. The whole process changed the scheduling on the fly and bumped the premier of a new show that has been advertised heavily on Fox. That's some power. That was a very expensive mistake.
Yep...pretty sure there is an empty desk somewhere, if you're interested.

Issues of the day...

I have resisted commenting on the Schiavo case, but can stand it no longer. Has the court system lost their collective mind? Listen to the nurse who cared for Terri for ten years or the Nobel nominated physician who specializes in cases like hers. She is responsive. She is aware. She is a disabled person who has been purposefully neglected and denied care.
Initially she was able to speak a little and walk with the assistance of parallel bars. Her husband pulled her out of therapy where she was beginning to recover and turned her into a bed-ridden patient that was denied basic medical care such as antibiotics.
The specialist I heard speak claims that she is able to chew and swallow at this point, but a previous court decision prevents her from having solid food. Now the courts are also denying her food and water. They claim she is a vegetable who cannot recover. She is not in a coma. She is now in pain and being starved to death. Imagine the horror of being trapped in a disabled body, unable to communicate, and slowly starving. The courts should not be honoring her "guardian's" wish, but instead looking into why he has such a vested interest in seeing her die. She does not have a living will. She is not being kept alive by machines. In fact, she wouldn't need to be kept alive by the tube feeding, she could eat if allowed. Maybe he's afraid that if she gets to live, gets therapy and begins to speak again that she will let the world know exactly how much of a monster he really is.
I watched Animal Precinct last night and interestingly enough both stories were about starving dogs and the arrest of their "guardians". How ironic.

Another school shooting...this one is just north of where my son goes to college. The reservation is not allowing journalists in to ask their insipid questions of neighbors and friends - a good thing in my opinion. There is nothing more insensitive than some idiot with plastic hair sticking a mic in the face of a grieving parent to ask, "How do you feel?"
It appears that the shooter was a neo-Nazi who admired Hitler. What is troubling to me is that the report I saw made much of the fact that he acquired the information online. There are those who would view this much as the gun he used. Blame the Internet and the guns rather than the underlying reason for the shooting - a very troubled person.

Diarist...

Couldn't get Pocket Blogger to work at all. Again, listening to sis and trying out Diarist.
This is a test. This is only a test. In the event of an actual blog entry, you would have been instructed to leave a comment.
This concludes the test of the PDA blogging tool.

Neglect...

I have neglected this blog. My son and his fiance were home on spring break and there was a flurry of wedding plan activity. We finalized tux arrangements, addressed the invitations, and attended a shower. There didn't seem to be time for anything else.
I took my sister's advice and downloaded Pocket Blogger for my iPAQ, but seem to be having trouble with it. I posted my issue on the support site - appropriately enough it's a blog! Hopefully I can get everything resolved and give it a trial run.

New gadget...

I finally caved in and developed and overwhelming urge to buy a PDA. My gadget of choice is an iPAQ decked with several extras, including wireless. It flawlessly hops onto my home network and allows me to surf on the tiny screen. I'll no longer tote my planner and panic when it is out of my site. I have now bonded with the cutest little PDA ever. (yes, I'm sick. At some point, I will seek help.)
Why only now, is the girl with every gadget made picking up a PDA? Hell if I know. I never had the itch before. I was ignorant of the incredible FUN I would have with one. I may be late in joining the handheld world, but I am loving it now.

They try to get you coming and going...

A new tax has been proposed in Florida.
This sure would eliminate the use of toilet paper as the occasional Kleenex! Would the Floridians rise up as the good folks in Boston did with the Boston Tea Party? Would they go on TP'ing spree, papering every legislator's home? Would the use of the Sears catalog come back into vogue?
Wow...taxed to wipe your ass. Kind of sums up the Democratic party.

No child "left" behind...

Liberalism on campuses has been in the news lately. My oldest attends a university in Minnesota and I can attest that the problem is not exaggerated.
He recently took a class that involved the evaluation of media. The instructor, known for her extreme Liberal viewpoint, presented two lists of websites. One was, in her opinion, a list of fair and honest sites. The other was a list of what she considered to be biased. The "fair and honest" list contained only liberal sites. They were not even masquerading as balanced. While the "biased" list did in fact some biased sites, they were all right-wing biased. The remainder would be considered, in my opinion, to be fair and honest. The assignment was to write a paper on why her list of "fair and honest" were balanced. Sort of a dilemma. The students who disagreed with her were docked. Basically they fed her what she wanted to hear just to get the grade.
She is up for department head for next year and there are students who will protest this. Thank God that students on both sides of the issues are willing to stand up for freedom of thought and expression. No professor should have the right to shove their political (or any other personal) viewpoint down the throats of their students.

Unbelievable...

I seriously thought that this was a joke. Apparently not.
First it was the Nobel Peace Prize nominations. What the hell??? Bono advocates forgiving all third world debt. That's it. Very "Kumbaya", eh? There is nothing more complex - just "let's all forget about it and the world will be wonderful." THIS is worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize? This should be compared to the work of past winners such as Past Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela?
Now, this very strange announcement that he is in the running to take over the World Bank. What qualification does he possibly have? He believes that debt should not be repaid! Wow - great qualification for a banker! Does the World Bank do mortgages?
Liberals seem to be completely infatuated with celebrity. Being able to sing (although this is questionable in Bono's case), act, or direct somehow makes your opinion more valuable in their eyes. This completely backfired on them during the campaign when they trotted out celebs to help them stump through the Midwest. We aren't stupid. A celebrity's opinion doesn't carry any extra weight. In fact, they have to go above and beyond just to prove that there IS a brain behind all the glitz.
Does Bono believe his rhetoric? I'm sure he does. Has he contributed to worthy causes? He absolutely has, both in time and money. Does this make him qualified to lead the World Bank? No.

Road kill...

The animal rights activists are protesting candy now. A candy company has begun distributing Road Kill, gummy candies in the shape of squashed squirrels and smashed snakes. Apparently the ARA do not believe that children know the difference between tiny sticky candies and real animals.
Where were the protesters when we were buying Pop Rocks? Did they not worry that Pop Rocks were nothing more than gateway candy turning fans into gravel suckers and boulder gnawers? Where was the concern over Garbage Pail candy? The risk was HUGE that chewing on the fish heads and bones would turn all aficionados into dumpster diving adults!
It's candy, people! I assure you, my children know the difference between Road Kill candy and a puppy. Chewing on gummies is not going to desensitize them and turn them into animal torturers any more than eating animal crackers all these years has given them a taste for elephant.
